Benefits of Positive Interactions

1019 copyHave you heard the saying, “You are the company you keep”? This old adage suggests that if you interact with happy and positive people, you’ll end up being happier and more positive yourself; and science is proving this saying to be true. Research shows that the brain produces higher levels of feel-good chemicals (like dopamine, serotonin and oxytocin) during positive interactions.*

If you want to feel happy and calm, then strive for situations and company that will foster positive interactions. Do your best to avoid negative and hostile people who can not only ruin your day, but who can also deprive your brain of the chemicals it needs in order to be in a good mood!

How to Walk on Clouds

505“A pessimist sees only the dark side of the clouds, and mopes; a philosopher sees both sides, and shrugs; an optimist doesn’t see the clouds at all – he’s walking on them.” – Leonard Louis Levinson

Accept What Cannot be Changed

940Everything in your life is not going to be perfect, and that’s perfectly alright. Happy people learn to accept injustices and setbacks in their life that they cannot change. Instead of dwelling on the negative, happy people put their energy into changing what they can control for the better.

Make a list of things that you cannot change today. Make another list of the things you do have control over. Let’s focus on the things that we can change today!

Your Positive Effect on Others

The Power of a Positive Mind

1611Your subconscious mind believes what you tell it, and whatever you believe to be true will become your reality. A negative mind focuses on what can not be done, but a positive mind searches for possibilities. Take a minute to think about what you are telling your subconscious, and adjust your attitude so that you can achieve success.*

The next time you are faced with a daunting task, envision the ways in which you can succeed. Break down your task into small manageable steps and tackle each, one by one.

Think Positively for Your Health

1466The average person experiences 50,000-70,000 thoughts per day. Out of those thousands of thoughts, how many are negative? Negative thinking does more than just bring down your mood, it can lead to unnecessary stress, anxiety, or depression. In one study, participants with the most cynical thoughts had an increased risk for developing dementia or heart disease later in life.*

Your mind can only process one thought at a time, so make an effort to hold onto only positive thoughts. When a negative thought enters your mind, practice replacing it with a more supportive or hopeful thought.

Gratitude Journal For Your Health

It’s time to count your blessings…and record them! Research has shown that people who wrote daily in a journal about five things they were grateful for were much more positive about their present life and about their future. They also showed lowered stress levels, they had fewer reports of illness, they slept better at night, and they woke up feeling more refreshed. The research continued to show that those who wrote daily experienced more health benefits than even those who wrote about gratitude only once a week.[1]

Gratitude is a choice and by reminding yourself of how good you actually have it, you will be healthier, more positive, and happier about your life and your future.
